Holiday In Cambodia

The final blog of the semester is the song Holiday In Cambodia by The Dead Kennedys. This song is great overall as it focuses on the rich overeducated urban people who don't have the closest idea of what it's like to be poor, and think that they don't have the greatest life. Then the Dead Kennedys start to sing about the hardships in Cambodia, I started to look up the history and in the song, I think they are talking about Khmer Rogue who is communist guerrilla warfare, and took power in Cambodia where he leached off the people, and sadly put them in slavery on labor forced farms. While this was very sad, and heartbreaking the Kennedys are singing about the fact that some people in the US need to be reducated on what it means to be in that type of situation. Now back to the song I liked the guitar at the beginning and the instrumentals throughout that made the song sound unique from the rest.

Thriller

This week's blog is about one of the most iconic Michael Jackson songs thriller. I like the different beats that mesh all together to make this song really good plus Michael Jackson's amazing singing makes this song one that all generations know to love especially during Haloween when it is on the radio everywhere as the song talks about the supernatural world for example Zombies, Ghosts, Werewolves, and many more. In addition, I like the narrator that talks about the creatures running about.  Thriller is a song that everyone can relate to for example I was in show choir in High School, and every year we did a performance to this song at school assemblies, and events across Las Vegas during Haloween season every year. Overall this song is definitely going down as one of the best of all time. Stay safe, and be good people.

I Shot The Sheriff

It's the first blog in quarantine guys!!! My blog this week is about Bob Marley and The Wailers version of the song I Shot The Sheriff. The first thought I had while listening to this song was the vibe that Marley and the Wailers create in the song to give a relaxing tone to listen to especially in times like these and I also like the drums, and the trumpet involved throughout the song which meshes perfectly with the other instruments to give the vibe I have been talking about with the perfect singing of Bob Marley. Even though the song is about someone who is accused of shooting the sheriff, and tries to deny the claim of shooting and killing the sheriff of the town, and was using self-defense. Overall I like this song, and everyone be safe out there, and be good people see you next time!

Hotel California

Hotel California is one of my favorite rock songs by the Eagels. I like the mysterious guitar in the opening of the song that leads to the first lyrics of traveling down a dark peaceful highway at night which brings back memories of my travels that I have had. The song of Hotel California is a really nice with a bunch of different meanings some of them relating to drugs, the beauty of California or how California is told to be such a glamours state when it is a trap, and your stuck in the false hope of or you sell your soul to get famous or live a great life in California. Those are some of the meanings I saw online. In addition I like the mixture of  instruments throughout the song including the guitar, and drums the lyrics, and the Eagels singing mixses so well. This song defiently has had influence on some artists, and will always be remembered.

Respect

This week I listened to Aretha Franklin's song named respect. Franklin is one of the best singers of soul music of all time, rightfully earning the name 'The Queen Of Soul". The song respect has a uplifting appeal to it and defiently is a soul music song. The meaning of the song to me is that there is a woman doing everything for the man she loves, but the man disrespects her, and all she wants is the title of the song which is resepct. I like the mixture of instruements throughout the song including the trumpet, and the mixture of the drums makes the sound perfect. But my favortie part of the song is when franklin spells out Respect by each letter getting the point across that all women deserve respect in the world, and that can defitnley be applied to todays world.

Eleanor Rigby

Eleanor Riby is easily one of my favorite Beatles songs becasue of the fact that I grew up listening to the Beatles all the time. I like the beginning of the song as it is very unique, and even throughout the songs with all the other instrumetns that are played. The songs main purpose is too show all the lonley people but also to show how lonley and sad Eleanor Rigby is, and how she died lonley. Overall the Beatles are easily one of the best bands of all time with many hits along the way like Help, Yesterday, I feel fine, and many more they defintely paved the way for many new artist we hear today, and in addition the way they sang, and how it meshed so perfectly together is fascinating. They forever go down as one of the best band ever, and thier music will be played for generations.

La Bamba

La Bamba is easily one of my favorite Rock N' Roll songs ever. Even though the song is in a different langauge I like it a lot. When I translated this song it means to do a dance called The Bamba and to do it with grace but also to do it and have fun. I love the guitar at the beginning flowed by different instruments that make the song light up, and gets any crowd moving. The song has a upbeat flair to it that gets the listener moving to the song. Ritchie Valens was a star of his time, and was a talented musician at such a young age but sadly passed away in the tragic event "The day that music died." Richie Valens will be remembered as one of the greatest Rock N'Roll artisit, and today's artist use his music as inspration for their own music, and Valens will defiently not be forgotten as his music will be listened to for generations.
